Test shoot with Mr. White

So, Saturday morning I met with Mr. White to take what was supposed to be a few test shots. We met up at Mobile Botanical Gardens, because there’s a field there that I’d used for a previous shoot, and it was open yet private. It was a pretty easy shoot. Though Mr. White is quite handsome, there was no guarantee that was going to come across on film. The purpose of the shoot was for me to see how things would turn out, and allow me to get comfortable shooting him. Well, ended up with over 100 frames.

So, those are the highlights. The last shot is my fave overall, I think. The lighting, the composition, and framing, together with his expression all seem to just work.

In the beginning of the shoot, I was shooting in color, figuring I could just change the shots to black and white in post-processing. However, I found that since I learned photography shooting in black and white, it’s a lot easier for me to just shoot in black and white in the first place. Plus, color wasn’t very important in this shoot. Also, Mr. White’s skin tone looks really beautiful in black and white, anyway. Win, win.

Hmm . . . Other technical stuff . . . I shot with my Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi. I used the flash a bit, but I didn’t like how it limited me being able to change the shutter speed. I really need a better flash, but I don’t know whether it’ll be worth it to invest in one. Plus, I like using natural light, once again, I learned how to shoot without a flash, so I’m eh about it.

Thanks for looking, and I appreciate feedback.
